Most people just dont pay close enough attention. Does that make them stupid? Lazy, to be sure, but if you give them the benefit of hte doubt then you wind up only raging against them about half as much.

Half are stupid, most of the rest are ignorant. Ignorance can be fixed but stupid is forever.

Most of us got banned. That makes it infinitly easier.

Yeah, SandRider was prebanned and so forth, but then y'all taught me
about sockpuppets and proxy servers. So I feel like if I can, I should.
And Merritt's just so STOOPID. I got blocked and banned from
Blogger News Network after visciously attacking both Andrew Ian
Dodge and their "editor", and they don't play. I still can't break in from
any of the machines here - had to go into town and get a buddies IP
blocked just to post the last bit of bullshit there.

You're right about that. But the problem is the same one I've stated here before
about my frustration with the civil war boards. A question is raised or a point is
mis-stated. The correct answer is given, and just fucking ignored. The correction
is posted again, and the response is "yeah, but ....{incorrect bullshit}" After awhile,
I get angry. Is this a discussion board or an editorial posting with no refutation ?

Are they reading the posts that answer their questions or correct their mistakes ?
Are they not understanding it ? I can't believe they could be that stupid. Merritt
has a reason - when he says something stupid and is refuted, he has to ignore it.
After the katee84 exchange on the "alien roads", I really kinda lost interest in the
argument - I had just wanted Merritt to respond somehow, either admit a mistake
{not bloody likely} or re-post his misinterpretation with some bullshit reasoning.

I didn't expect tools like Bel-Moulay to run with the idea in the opposite direction
of the truth for so long. I'll make fun of those people, call them stupid and dense
and pretards and so forth, but deep down, you'd think they be smart enough to
understand the basis of factual arguments.

Omph, inattentive or lazy would imply that they are capable of perceiving the difference but just don't care enough to bother. (Like our itinerant misspelling artEEst?) Isn't that an even more serious indictment than just calling them stupid? Stupid in a way absolves them of responsibility...

    Hmmm.... ;)

Anyway, it doesn't help the situation when you've got a total troll like arnoldo posting completely off-the-wall bullshit, just because he can.

Don't despair. I agree it's disappointing when you go through a lot of effort to formulate intelligent posts and they become lost in a sea of nonsense rebuttals. But don't overestimate the heat of the moment. I've had people come back to me after a good debate (sometimes even months later) and they came around on the issues. It doesn't happen often, but your words will reach a small few and will give them some insight. Even if only one person eventually comes around, you have to accept that as a victory.

You just can't "make" people care. They have to do that on their own.

I used to argue with them just to make it so clear to anyone who decided to read the thread that they could never think like the person I was thrashing. I never really thought about changing the minds of people like arnoldo.

There is no false dichotomy that either Leto II was musing about only human societies or only machine societies. Heavily machined human societies which had a plethora of thinking machines would also fit the definition of an "alien" society. Also if these alien societies also began genetic experimentation to produce man/animal hybrids, genetically modified humans, etc, then these would also fit the definition of "alien societies." Why do you insist that Leto was obviously only musing about entirely human societies?

    Bel Moulay wrote:

Could he possibly be seeing into the future and these alien societies are the ones from the Scattering? It seems only the Lost Ones have a common respect for Leto II. In the old empire he's the Tyrant or Shaitan but the Lost Ones refer to him as Guldur and even in Ysai on Gammu there was a gang of children; products of the scattering that would go around throwing stones at people who didn't hail "Guldur" (Leto II).

FUCK OFF AND DIE YOU LITTLE POISON DWARF !! G-D !

Well, I know I've been told seven times over that the quote was Leto speaking from Other Memory,
but maybe he was looking into the past and seeing the memories of Paul or somebody who was looking into the
future and the alien roads were the machine societies that exisited in the Machine Scattering after the Bulterian Jihad
and escaped Leto's vision 'cause they're like, all machines and stuff, and don't have marker genes. But I'll forget
all about this is about two or three days and post the same stupid shit again, because I guess I'm just a brain-dead
puppy fucker and I think I hear my mommy calling me now ....

I think he thinks he's dead fucking serious.
I think he thinks he's making valid and valuable contributions.

When katee84 was trying to call Merritt out on this very topic,
in this very thread, and Arnie kept throwing in irrelevant red-
herrings, she sent him a nasty PM, saying basically, WTF
is the matter with you, stay on the topic or fuck off, you're not
going to derail this discussion like you always do, you troll.

Arnie's response was polite & meek, along the lines of, "Sorry if
I offended, I was just trying to help."

One of the neighbors on our block on the Ranger Station in Oregon we lived at in the 80's had a fully functional civil war era replica cannon , he use to shoot it off on New Years, lots of fun.

I grew up next to Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield (and Cheetham Hill), the sound of Civil War cannons were common on Sundays when they'd have a little re-enactment. For some reason they stopped doing it a few years ago. Money issues maybe.
